Antico Caffe Greco may stop working. The new cost of rent for the owners of the cafe is simply not affordable.

The cafe has existed since 1760 and has a cult status. Charles Dickens, Arthur Schopenhauer, Franz Liszt and Nikolai Gogol came here for a cup of coffee. In addition, more than three hundred works of art are stored here. This is one of the largest private art galleries open to public access.

In 2017 the lease agreement for the building expired, and the owner raised the monthly fee from 18 to 120 thousand euros. He explained his decision by saying that the cafe is located on one of the busiest streets in the city. According to the court’s decision, Antico Caffe Greco will remain in its original place until the end of January 2020.
